Qualification
Education, Skills and Experience
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized academic institution.
- At least 3 years’ experience at a similar position in a recognized academic institution.
- Must be registered as a Nurse with the Nursing Council.
OR
- Higher Diploma in Nursing from a recognized academic institution.
- Must be registered as a Nurse with the Nursing Council.
- At least 5 years’ experience at a similar position in a recognized academic institution.
Key responsibilities also include
Reporting to: Head, University Health Centre
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care, health education, and counselling to patients in line with established clinical guidelines.
- Assist in meeting patients’ basic care needs, including hygiene, feeding, mobility, and general comfort.
- Monitor, record, and interpret patients’ vital signs, and maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and reports.
- Identify changes in patients’ conditions and promptly escalate complex or critical cases to the Chief Clinical Officer or relevant clinician.
- Assist medical officers and clinicians during clinical procedures, including specimen collection, administration of medication, and intravenous therapy.
- Carry out approved nursing procedures such as wound dressing, bed bathing, and basic patient care, referring complex cases as appropriate.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of all patient records in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise nursing care activities within the assigned unit to ensure quality service delivery.
- Ensure availability, proper storage, and inventory control of medical supplies and consumables.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention standards within the ward/health facility environment.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
