Qualification
Education, Skills and Experience
Must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized Institution.
- Must be registered with Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience at a comparable position.
- Must be Computer Literate.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is an added advantage.
Key responsibilities also include
Reporting to: Principal Laboratory Technologist
Duties and responsibilities:
- Supervise and support the conduct of practical skills sessions by technologists and students to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Liaise with academic staff, and relevant departments to coordinate practical sessions, timetables, equipment requirements, and work plans.
- Prepare, set up, and ensure availability of laboratory equipment, chemicals, drugs, and other materials prior to practical sessions, including running trial demonstrations where necessary.
- Support lecturers, technologists, and students during laboratory sessions by providing technical guidance and facilitating effective skills delivery.
- Ensure effective coordination and optimal utilization of laboratory resources, including equipment, consumables, and learning materials.
- Maintain custody and proper management of laboratory equipment and apparatus, including inventory control, cataloguing, and tracking movement and usage.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, including student practical attendance, results tracking, equipment logs, and maintenance records.
- Ensure proper cleaning, sanitation, and organization of the skills laboratory in compliance with standard laboratory and infection prevention practices.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and quality assurance procedures, including reporting equipment breakdowns and coordinating maintenance and calibration.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to research and continuous improvement of laboratory practices and technologies.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
